POEA Citizen's Watch Agains't Ilegal Recruiters

The more accessible government service is to the people, the better. What more if the clients involved are hapless victims of illegal recruitment and human trafficking whose only intention is to realize their dreams of a better life in a foreign land.

The unabated illegal recruitment activities and the use of more sophisticated means to lure victims prompted the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Administrator Carlos S. Cao Jr. to establish the POEA Citizen’s Watch Against Illegal Recruitment and Human Trafficking to immediately respond to the problems of the victims.

Deployment of New Workers to Syria Suspended

When the  Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) raised the crisis alert to level 2 in Syria, it signifies a need to impose a deployment ban too. The Labor Department ordered the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to suspend the processing of newly hired workers to Syria. The deployment ban does not include returning workers to Syria.

The crisis alert level 2 in Syria means restriction of movement in Syria, which includes avoiding large crowds and areas of protest. It also encourages Filipinos to voluntarily relocate or leave at their own cost if they have no pressing need to remain. Non-essential and non-urgent travel is discouraged, including travel for tourism purposes.

Danilo Cruz, Labor Undersecretary said, "Since it's just an alert level 2, returning workers are still allowed to leave the country," he said.
